The Shire of Carreg Wen

The King's Hunt IX

Friday through Sunday April 4th-6th, 2008

The Shire of Carreg Wen would like to invite everyone to join them for

novel fighting, archery, and A&S.

Spring time is nigh upon us and the beasts of the forest are waking from their winter slumber and getting restless. The time for the King’s Hunt will soon be upon us. We must cull the herds before they trample the crops and menace our people. Wherefore do we plea to all the brave and skilled hunters of our kingdom for help. Come join us on Saturday morning tracking down wild “animals”. The hunting party is made up of a “hunter” carrying a spear and 2 “dogs” which carry a single-handed weapon. The “animals” may fight with any weapons. The prize goes to the hunting team that slays the most animals. In the afternoon, there will be both heavy and rapier lists. Numerous archery shoots will also be held on Saturday. For non-fighters we have A&S activities and classes planned. A scavenger hunt has been arranged to divert the children.

A feast will be offered on Saturday evening to be cooked by Ursula and Johannes von Husen. The cost for the feast will be $7 per person and $5 for children over 5. Please check our website for menu information and ingredient list. Pre-registration for the feast is highly encouraged.

Breakfast will be provided on Sunday morning, cooked by Lady Josceline Greylock, so that all who came to visit our fair Shire may travel home well fed.

Location: Live Oak Camp (HC 59, Hwy 154, Santa Barbara, CA 93105) This beautiful secluded site is nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the river of the same name. There is plenty of shaded camping space available and heated showers. Site will open Friday, April 4th, 2008 at noon and close Sunday April 6th, 2008 at noon.

Follow it for about 10 miles over the hill and back down into the valley. You will be almost to the bottom of the grade when you will turn right. From the North: Take your best route to Highway 101, head towards Buellton. Take the Highway 154 exit, San Marcos Pass Road. Follow it over the hills for about 20 miles.
